Nannari (நன்னாரி), also called naruneendi in southern India and known in English as Indian sarsaparilla, is the botanical Hemidesmus indicus, a plant of the Apocynaceae family. It is the root that is used.

In Tamil kitchens
In Tamil Nadu the fragrant nannari root is best known for nannari sharbat, a cooling summer drink, and pickled roots are also served with rice dishes.
